Excerpt…
Why the stage name MIC?
My stage name is MIC which is coined from my real name. Michael Oladosu Olayinka is my real name and MIC came from Michael.
When did you start music?
I’ve been doing music underground since 2005 when I was very young. I’ve been writing songs since I was a kid. My first time in the studio was 2010 when I worked with Fliptyce but unfortunately, the song didn’t make it to the air. Professionally, I started releasing songs officially since 2015. I debut with a song called Ara Mo Da and the song did well. In 2016, I released a song titled Bamidele with a video directed by Unlimited L.A. I think we tried our best on Bamidele in terms of promotion. We pushed it to a stage where people can start listening to a brand called MIC. To the glory of God, we’ve done Bamidele remix featuring Orezi it’s about to be release anytime soon. We’re about to shoot the video with Paul Gambit.
What is the concept behind Bamidele?
Bamidele is actually a love song. The song is talking about a lady who am trying to woo, at the same time, I’m trying to give her reasons to follow me home.
Is Bamidele from personal experience?
Yes, it was from a personal experience. There was this lady I was trying to woo. So, I was in a studio that very day when she called. I didn’t enter studio because of her thou but during our conversation, I was just trying to convince her more to date me. After I dropped the call, the producer was trying to ask me about the conversation I was having with the girl. And I was like, she’s a fresh girl that I was trying to woo and I wish we could actually take it to the next level. And the producer was like, o fe ko ba e dele meaning you want her to follow you home.
Did she actually follow you home?
Of course, after the song, I let her know that I did a song for her and after she listen to it and we promoted the song, she felt special and the whole thing started from there.
Are you on any record label?
I’m not on any record label but I’m open to any record deal if I see one.
How will you describe the entertainment industry?
Ah! The industry is not favouring the upcoming artistes at all. In the industry, there is no room for upcoming, you have to strive to get there by yourself. You have to do everything humanly possible to get there. You need funds to achieve some little…little things that you need to put in place to get your craft out there. I don’t think there is a structure for upcoming act in the country. But as an upcoming artiste, the passion and the love for what you do has to be there because those things will keep you going.
Tell us your educational background?
I’m a graduate of Ekiti State University where is studied Accounting. I graduated in 2015 and by the grace of God, I’m pursuing my musical career.
So you dump your certificate for your music career?
Of course, definitely.
Tell us that unique thing about you that makes your different from every other artistes?
If you listen to Bamidele, as a fast-rising artiste, with the content and the originality in the song, you will know what I’m about to offer in the music industry is special and different from what every other person have been offering. If you get to listen to the remix, Orezi did a wonderfutoo was on point.
After Bamidele, what next should we be expecting?
A lot of project will be coming up this year. New single back-to-back after Bamidele. We’re breaking into the industry big time just watch out.
What gives you inspiration to write songs?
I don’t smoke but I drink moderately. My inspiration comes from things that happen around me. Sometimes, I get inspire when I’m lonely because that’s when I get to think about things that is happening in my life and from there draw inspiration. I also draw inspirational from when I’m listening to other people songs or watching television.
What is the craziest thing a lady has ever done to your after your performance on stage?
I’ve been kissed on stage by a female fan before. I think that’s the craziest thing a lady has done to me.
Where do you see the brand MIC in few years to come?
I wish to see myself in few years buy somethings without checking the label. I mean just paying for everything I wish to get which means I would have been successful enough to do. I would have break a lot of records in the industry
Who are your role model in the industry?
Of course, I’ve always seen Eldee De Don as a very good person to emulate. And I like 2baba a lot. I know everyone like 2face but I have this special like for him and I get inspire by him and things he has achieved in the industry. I like every good artiste that one can get inspiration from. |
